Known gaps
  • Closed-source systems. Private SaaS leaves few public, hard-to-game signals; this pilot tracks OSS / research-native systems where the data is rich and tamper-resistant.
  • Systems without a paper. Several tracked systems (e.g. in coding agents) have no academic publication, so they have no citation axis and cannot, by construction, satisfy the two-axis gate. They appear as single-axis.
  • New systems. Genuinely new (2024–25) systems lack the citation history to confirm momentum yet. Each weekly snapshot adds one data point. Confirmation arrives with time, not before it.
  • Beyond AI. The taxonomy reserves room beyond AI; this pilot measures three AI frontiers only.

The record gets stronger the longer it runs. Only a continuous baseline can catch a flare against its own past, and ours starts here.
